Players
- If a server seems suspicious, don't join it and find a new one to join instead. There are plenty in the PixelatedW Discord server.
- If a server owner has a bad reputation, or associates with people who have bad reputations, it's not the best idea to join their server
- Malicious server owners can track and ddos your IP, or share it with others
- If a suspicious player creates mods, and they're not open source, it's not the best idea to use their mod or join their server
- Mods can do a lot to a computer if it wanted to
- Not seen this happen in my time, probably extremely uncommon or never happens at all, but I wouldn't put it past some people in the community.

If players are having trouble joining your server, check console/logs when they try logging in
- If it says "mismatched mod list" it means they have incorrect mods installed in their mods folder
- If a player is getting a memory error/crash, they may not have enough RAM allocated in the launcher
- If it says "can't verify username" when a player tries to join, tell them to close Minecraft and restart the launcher. If it persists, they may not have premium Minecraft
Crashes
- Learn how to roughly read crash-logs
- If you can't decipher it, Google the error
- If you notice a certain ability name in there, try disabling it in mmnm config and testing it in a private server
- If notice a certain mod name in there then you can:
- Tweak its configs,
- Contact the creator,
- Or remove the mod.
- WARNING: I don't recommend removing a mod and then continuing to use the same world it was once in as it can cause unexpected errors/crashes
- For "A tick took longer than X" error or similar, go into server.properties and set max-tick-time=-1. This will prevent the server from crashing if a tick takes a long time
- Sometimes there's massive lag or crashes to do with players finding treasure maps while the Islands mod is installed. Make islands slightly larger and more frequent in config to combat this, and contact Wynd for support.
Mods
- Maybe this will help setting up your modpack
- Don't add unstable mods, problems may outweigh benefits
- Might not want to add too many mods due to unexpected interactions, and potential lag
- The Silencer mod may help with handling spoilers
Whitelist
- For most of the server's life we didn't have a whitelist, but it proved very useful in stopping spam-attacks later on. Might want to do it earlier than later. We made people put their username in Discord to get whitelisted (they need to have a phone number to send messages).
- If you do this, make sure you role-persist whitelisted roles using some bot, so they can't act maliciously by leaving/joining etc.
- And make backups of whitelist.json in your server files.
Other
- Follow the Account Security instructions.
- Don't give your staff more permissions than necessary
- Know your staff, build relationships
- Listen to players, but also understand the scope of problems from a server owner's perspective. Not everyone will understand your perspective and you can't please everyone. Just remember that you always have the final say.
